Description

So many things wrong with this picture. Foremost, the wristwatch! I must remember to ditch the watch in these "period" shots. Second, the shoes look far too contemporary; even though they're industrial-grade work boots, they still have a hint of "sneaker" to them. The rumpled cuff on the trousers, caught behind the heel of the shoe, looks goofy. There's something about the belt that's not quite right (but I have a vintage belt on the way via eBay, maybe that'll help). The tab on the shirt sleeve was supposed to be tucked in. There's a missing button on the sleeve tab, otherwise I would have had the rolled sleeve secured with the tab.

And now I'm seeing why the Dorfman-Pacific "indiana Jones" hat is so reviled by serious "Indy Gearheads." The crown shape really isn't right -- it's neither tall enough nor straight enough -- for a Raiders series hat, and the brim isn't wide enough. That being said, it's an okay hat for a general purpose rough-and-tumble fedora -- it would work as a film-noir reporter hat, or an Adventure-Guy-Who-Isn't-Indiana-Jones hat, or maybe a second-string G-Man hat, but it's not an "Indiana Jones" hat.

Maybe it's just because I know, but the satchel doesn't look like it has enough mass. That's 'cuz it's stuffed with plastic bags to give it some shape. It's too poofed out, but isn't hanging heavily enough for a bag with that much "stuff" in it.

Oh, and one more thing: standing on a recently mowed lawn in front of a garden shrubbery... no. Does. Not. Work. Gotta pay more attention to what's under the feet.

The faded sepia tone works, though, along with the slight vignetting. It'd be better if I could add some "emulsion scratches."

Kinda helps me understand why it takes so many people and so much money to make a motion picture that looks "just right."
