Summary

[edit]
Description

Stained glass in Church of St Thomas the Apostle, Killinghall, North Yorkshire, England. Church completed in 1880, by architect William Swinden Barber.

This is the centre light of a three-light window on the north aisle, on the subject of evangelism or missionary work. Note the lily cross symbol above King David's head. He is identified as David (not Jesus) because he has no halo, he is playing music, and he is associated with the authorship of Psalm 19.

Description as follows: It shows King David in the centre light, playing music. The left-hand light carries the words, "Their sound is gone out unto all lands," and the right-hand light says "and their words into the ends of the world." This is a translation of the 4th and 5th lines of Psalm 19, as it appears in The Book of Common Prayer: day 4, morning prayer, and also in Handel's Messiah. The men on either side of David are both saints with halos, and representatives of the Church, wearing mitres. There is no dedication plaque for this window.
