Summary
[edit]DescriptionKettley Crag rock shelter - geograph.org.uk - 1351708.jpg |
English: Kettley Crag rock shelter The floor of this small overhang is intricately carved with symbols of the 'cup and ring' type and is one of the finest examples of many such carved rocks at large in the Northumberland countryside. They are usually dated to the Bronze Age or Neolithic but dating evidence is poor and their purpose unknown. The carved floor under the overhang was discovered only in 2001 by the farmer whose cattle had chosen the site for shelter and disturbed the covering of turf.
