Bahasa Indonesia: Reak asal kata dari “reok”/”reog” yang berarti membuat kebisingan atau gaduh. Seni Reog sendiri diyakini sudah ada sejak jaman Majapahit, dan masuk ke Jawa Barat di jaman Islam pada masa pemerintahan Kesultanan Cirebon. Kemudian menyebar ke Sumedang hingga sampai ke wilayah Ujungberung - Bandung. Seni Reak awalnya berfungsi sebagai penyerta ritual pada budaya nyawah (bercocok tanam padi).
Reak adalah sebuah kesenian khas masyarakat Cianjur yang memperpadukan kesenian reog, angklung, kendang pencak, dan topeng. Konon, kesenian ini lahir sekitar abad ke-12. Ketika itu Prabu Kiansantang (putra Prabu Siliwangi) menginginkan agar penduduk pulau Jawa, khususnya Jawa Barat menganut agama Islam
English: Reak comes from the word "reok"/"reog" which means to make noise or make noise. Reog art itself is believed to have existed since the Majapahit era, and entered West Java in the Islamic era during the reign of the Cirebon Sultanate. Then it spread to Sumedang until it reached the Ujungberung - Bandung area. Reak art originally functioned as a ritual accompaniment to the culture of nyawah (rice farming).
Reak is a typical art of the Cianjur community that combines the arts of reog, angklung, pencak drums, and masks. That said, this art was born around the 12th century. At that time, Prabu Kiansantang (son of King Siliwangi) wanted the inhabitants of the island of Java, especially West Java, to embrace Islam. |
