Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Kerry. "The Devil's Ladder In The Macgillycuddy's Reeks" The "Brocken Spectre" when the sun is behind the walker, who is looking downward into mist, from a ridge or peak. The name "Brocken Spectre" originates from the highest top in north Germany. The Brocken in the Harz mountains, where legend has it that a climber fell to his death, after being startled by an unearthly appearance of a haloed human figure in the swirling mists. The shadow of course was his own, casted by the sunlight onto the cloud. Photo taken from the top of the Devil's Ladder, Map Ref. V80664 83684 Elevation 740 metres (2427 feet)
