Description
English: 1794 or 1804. Charles IIII of Spain/Mexico, silver plated, contemporary counterfeit 8 reales or 'Pillar Dollar' with oval or lozenge shaped counterfeit unidentifiable counterstamp. Length 39.8mm, Width 39.4mm, Thickness 3mm, Diameter 39.8mm, Weight 24g. Obverse: Laureate and draped bust right CAROLUS.IIII.DEI.GRATIA Reverse: Pillars of Hercules either side of shield with crown above. REX.S.BR.EA.HISPAN.ET.(IND). Counterfeit mint name probably Lima or Mexico City, Die axis 0 deg or 12 o'clock. Some wear, good silver colour with some grey tarnish but several areas of silver plating corroded/worn away, with some green corrosion on these areas.
