Description

Statue of Haarlem 'flower girl' pinning carnation to button-hole of train commuter holding attache case. Situated in front of the Haarlem tourist agency (VVV), which is on the south side of the Haarlem train station. The statue was given to the people of Haarlem in 1979 to commemorate the 25th anniversay of the 'Haarlem flower girls', a stewardess-like role as hostess to flower shows and Haarlem events. Flower girls were often present at many Haarlem functions to hand out fresh flowers. They still exist at the flower show 'Keukenhof'. Statue created by Kees Verkade. An inscription on the pedestal reads: "Dit beeld = gemaakt door Kees Verkade - is aangeboden aan de inwoners van Haarlem door Donnelley-Vierhand BV,

Bij de 25e verjaardag van de bloemenmeisjes, 6 april 1979". See also Kees-verkade-bloemenmeisje-VVV.JPG for other view.
