- En: The Kauri tree (Agathis australis) "Te Matua Ngahere" (Father of the forest) in Waipoua forest, New Zealand. Its the oldest tree in the country, estimated to be over 1500 and possibly 3000 years old. It is 30 metres tall, with a girth of over 16 metres. Kauri forests once covered 1.2 million hectares; now they have been reduced to 80,000 hectares.[1]
