KATTAI ALIAS KATTAKAL DOG NAMING REASON:  

"KATTAI" THE TAMIL WORD MEANS "SHORT" IN TAMIL LANGUAGE AS THE DOG ARE SHORT AND STRONG THEY ARE CALLED "KATTAKAL" OR KATTAI DOG".

KATTAI MORE POWER FULL STRONG AND HAVE THICK TAIL COMPARED TO DACHSHUND.

KATTAI ATTRACTED TO FEMALE AND CHILDREN'S OF A FAMILY:

MOSTLY CHILDREN'S AND FEMALE ARE ATTRACTED TO THESE KATTAI DOG DUE TO THEIR APPEARANCE. SO AFTER THE DEMISE OF THEIR KATTAI DOG THEY ALWAYS LIKE TO GROW ANOTHER KATTAI DOG NO OTHER CHOICE OF OTHER BREED.

FULL BLACK,BLACK AND WHITE ,RED ,REDAND WHITE ,BRINDLE,FULL WHITE ,BLACK AND TAN(RARE) AND WHITE MIXED WITH RED.

HISTORY:

IN PAST KATTAI DOGS HAVE BEEN USED FOR GUARDING 300 TO 400 ACRE FARMS IN TANJORE AND NAGAPATTINAM REGIONS .SUCH A LOYAL AND ALERT GUARD DOG.

TRANVERSE GALLOP WITH RIGHT LEG LEAD.

ORIGIN:  

These dog breeds are found around the regions of nagapattinam, karaikal(union territory),thiruvarur and tanjore districts of tamilnadu India.

KATTAI AND KUCHI DOG SIMILARITY:

KUCHI DOGS ARE MENTIONED IN W.V. SOMAN’S BOOK ABOUT INDIAN DOG BREEDS. KUCHI DOGS ARE CAPABLE OF CATCHING RATS AND SQUIRRELS:THEY ALSO HAVE BUSHY COILED TAIL TIP COMING TO THE CENTRE OF THE COIL,VERY SHORT IN LENGTH AND HEIGHT.THEY ARE FOUND IN THE REGIONS OF TANJORE.THE APPEARENCE OF KUCHI AND KATTAI IS SOME WHAT SIMILAR BUT NOT SURE THAT KUCHI AND KATTAI DOG ARE SAME.

LIFE SPAN:

15- 20 YEARS. RECENTLY ONE KATTAI DOG NAMED SURYA NOTED WHOSE AGE IS 20 YEARS. PICTURE BELOW.
