Trask family and friends gather on a summer day, circa 1886: Spencer Trask stands, looking down at Katrina and daughter Christina. Eastman Johnson, an artist who painted portraits of Trask family members, holds Spencer, Jr. on his lap in front of Allena Pardee, the children's tutor. Henry VanDyke, a poet, and George Foster Peabody, Spencer's business partner, a close family friend, and Katrina's second husband, are seated at left. Katrina's mother, Christina Nichols, is in the rocking chair in the center. Acosta Nichols, Katrina's brother, is standing toward the back, while the man at the far right in unidentified.
