Description President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzaihas served in his current role since 2002 when he was elected by the people via the Loya Jirga, and via national government election process since 2004 as the first directly elected president in Afghanistan's history. National Military Academy of Afghanistan awarded bachelor's degrees to 299 newly commissioned officers who will serve in any of the 11 branches of the Afghan National Army.
