Summary
[edit]DescriptionKarstquellen Echaz Honau Schwaebische-Alb.jpg |
English: Protected Geotope and Natural monument karst springs of river “Echaz ” (tributary of the Neckar). The springs emerge above the village Honau. headward erosion of the river deeply cut into the escarpment (“Albtrauf”) of the Swabian Alb. Additional, but smaller, springs emerge from the “oxfordian” beds of the South German White Jurassic (ox1/ox2) in the upper, narrow part of the valley, called “Tobeltal”. The relatively large catchment area of the springs on the Alb’s plateau is more than 100 km2. The springs yield varies drastically, according to time of year and quantity of precipitation. Over thousands of years the upper section of the river formed several large terraces of “Kalktuff“ (very cavernous travertine). |
