Kars view from citadel hill

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Kale or fortress dates back to 1153, but that fortress was demolished by the Mongols in 1386, only to be rebuilt in 1579 for Sultan Murat III. Then, in 1855, the complex was built anew. So what you see has no claim to being ancient. Still, it looks impressive. You see the Stone Bridge crossing the river, with some of the three hamams (bathhouses) nearby. Restoration work for the whole area was under way.
