Summary
[edit]DescriptionKarlsruhe Friendship Bridge, Nottingham, NG1 - geograph.org.uk - 3755368.jpg |
English: Karlsruhe Friendship Bridge under construction in the English city of Nottingham. "Following its installation, work will take place to lay a concrete deck on the bridge and to install the tram tracks and a new tram stop at Nottingham Station. The tram works at Nottingham Station are expected to be completed by the end of 2013, as part of the Nottingham Express Transit (NET) Phase Two project. Towards the latter end of the year the tram bridge over the station will be connected to two smaller bridges that will be positioned over Station Street and Queen’s Road, on either side of the station. The completed bridge, collectively named the Karlsruhe Friendship Bridge, will carry twin tram tracks with three metre wide public walkways on either side. It will carry trams from the city centre, connecting the current Line 1 with the redeveloped railway station and the two new tram lines to Clifton and Chilwell. The three new combined tram bridges replicate the bridges which once sat in the same locations and formed part of the Great Central Railway. Some of the old Great Central Railway bridge’s foundations are being reused to support the new bridges." (Local media report). |
