English: A 1954 bird's view of Karikal (now Karaikal), with rice paddies seen in the background. Karikal, one of the five original settlements of French India, was absorbed into India in 1954 (de facto) and in1956 (de jure). Français : Vue partuelle de Karikal en 1954. Karikal fut un des quatre comptoirs français de l'Inde qui passa sous le contrôle de facto de l'Inde en 1954 (Chandernagor l'avait été en 1950). C'est en 1956 que s'effectua la cession de jure des anciennes possessions françaises |
