| Description | The Karcher Hotel in Waukegan (1928). It is uncertain who the hotel was named after, though it was probably Leonard D. Karcher, a financial secretary for Cochran & McCleur. The hotel had 150 rooms. The hotel remained in the same ownership group until 1965. The new ownership spent $250,000 remodeling the building, operating it until 1981. For three years, the building was used as a skilled nursing facility. A 1984 dire severely damaged the building and killed eight residents. |
