The Kantang railway station is situated in Amphoe Kantang, Trang province, south of Thailand. Kantang is one of the oldest towns in southern Thailand. 2000 years ago, it was an important port with the town standing on the mouth of the river. Merchants from India and Arabia landed their goods at Kantang port and transported across the peninsula to Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat to be traded with the silks and treasures from China. They did this to avoid having to travel through the Strait of Malacca, where there were lots of pirates.
The station was operated since April 1, 1913. It is the end of the rail line of the Southern Andaman route. The building is in its original 1900s Sino-Portuguese architecture.
