DescriptionKansas City political machine cartoon S.J.Ray.jpg | A 1930s cartoon of Kansas-City (Missouri) political machine. No later than 1939 (when boss Tom Prendergast was jailed and his machine collapsed). The basic principle was common to all urban machines. Lots of resources are collected at the top, but very few of them - "small jobs" and "petty favors" trickle down back to the city. The rest is "appropriated" by the boss. |
