[edit]DescriptionKamal al-Din Isma'il Isfahani; diwan copied by 'Abd Al-'Aziz Ibn Al-Husayn Ibn 'Abd Al-'Aziz, Firuzabad, dated 29 March 1353.jpg |
English: KAMAL AL-DIN ISMA'IL ISFAHANI: DIWAN
COPIED BY 'ABD AL-'AZIZ IBN AL-HUSAYN IBN 'ABD AL-'AZIZ, FIRUZABAD, DATED 22 SAFAR AH 754/29 MARCH 1353 AD Persian manuscript on buff paper, 292ff. plus 3 fly-leaves, each with 22/23ll. of black flowing nasta'liq divided into two columns with red intercolumnar rules and margins in red and blue, headings in red, blue and manganese naskh, a number of crude designs in the margins, opening folio with gold and polychrome illuminated headpiece, and frontispiece with ownership note of Sultan Bayazid II and complex illumination in the form of a radiating star formed of interlacing strapwork, the colophon signed 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Husayn ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz and dated 22 Safar 754, areas of staining, in plain red morocco Text panel 7½ x 4 1/8in. (19 x 10.5cm.); folio 9¾ x 6 1/8in. (24.8 x 15.6cm.) A note on the frontispiece of this manuscript reads 'Its owner Sultan Bayazid son of Muhammad Khan, may (God) make his reign eternal', indicating that the manuscript belonged to the Ottoman ruler Sultan Bayazid II (AH 886-918/1481-1512 AD). Based on the seals and impressions it was already in Persian hands from the 17th century. The date is slightly confusing. Whilst the Arabic inscription reads 754, the numbers read 802 and 804. |
