Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Kalyazin Bell Tower and small cruise ship in Volga river at city of Kalyazin/ Russian Federation.

The Flooded Belfry is part of the church flooded during the Stalinist era and the most eye-catching landmark of Kalyazin.

So, when Joseph Stalin ordered the construction of the Uglich Reservoir in 1939, the old part of Kalyazin, including several medieval structures, was swallowed by the waves. The katholikon was dismantled, whilst the belfry was left sticking above the water.
Русский: Прогулочный катер «Москва‐46» и колокольня Никольского собора (затопленная колокольня) — памятник истории и архитектуры на искусственном острове Угличского водохранилища недалеко от города Калязина.
