Deutsch: Idealisiserte Darstellung des Welfen Otto IV. vor einem geschmückten Durchgang mit Treppen und einem roten Teppich. Fest hält er den Schild mit der Inschrift "HIE WELF." und den Wappen Englands bzw. dem Reichsadler in der Hand, ein Verweis auf seine enge Beziehung zu England, wo er seine Jugend verbrachte. Der Text im Vierpass nennt "INNOC[ENTIUS] III PONTIFEX MAX[IMUS]", Papst Innozenz III., der ihm die Kaiserkrone versprach. Das Spruchband Aurea Roma, "durch das goldene Rom" steht im gleichen Kontext und verheißt dem durchgehenden die Kaiserkrone durch den Einzug nach Rom. Gestiftet von Amschel Mayer Freiherr von Rothschild, Frankfurt am Main. Das Gemälde ist Teil der Herrschergalerie im Kaisersaal des Hauses zum Römer im Frankfurter Rathaus und gehört zum Bestand des Historischen Museums Frankfurt am Main. Motto: Strepit anser inter olores. |
