Français : Portrait de famille représentant Céline Chagot de Fays (1797-1881), marquise Amelot de Chaillou et ses enfants, Antoine (1819-1872), Anna (1823-1890) et Marie (1828-1887). Marie a sans doute été ajoutée quelques années plus tard au tableau.

Céline était la fille de Marie-Bernard Chagot de Fays, membre du Conseil du contentieux au ministère des Finances, et d'Émilie Contat, actrice de la Comédie-Française. En 1818, elle épousa Antoine Victor Anne Dijon Amelot (1784-1846), marquis de Chaillou. Le couple eut quatre enfants : Antoine (1819-1872), Anna (1823-1890), Marie (1828-1887) et Léon (1831-1904). Anna épousa le marquis Séguier de Saint Brisson et Marie le marquis de Selves d’Audeville. Catherine Amelot de Chaillou, petite-fille de Cécile, épousa en 1881 Napoléon (1856-1935), 3e duc de Tascher de La Pagerie.

Le groupe est placé sur une terrasse s’ouvrant sur un paysage, avec une colonne antique à l’arrière-plan. Le vase Borghèse, célèbre antique dont on voit ici une édition en bronze, était très à la mode comme objet d’ornement depuis son achat par Napoléon en 1808 au comte Camille Borghèse, et son entrée au Louvre en 1811.
