KFC carton elegantly and meaningfully positioned upside-down on a spike of Down Lane Park railing. Scroll down for second photo; looking south along Park View Road. ________________________________ § Wikpedia page on the Assisted Readymades of Marcel Duchamp. § Luckily, there is no indication that Haringey Waste Management are fans of Marcel Duchamp and his imitators. More likely, they realise the KFC carton is an important "intervention" in the street-scene by local artist Bagsy Known in Italy as Sacchetti his work is well-attested for its controversial and satirical truth. And while this is not on the scale of his 2003 virtual Guggenheim introspective, people like me were glad to view the carton before it was rescued, to be lovingly restored, refilled; and then auctioned. To the untrained eye Bagsy's latest piece may simply seem of playful and decorative character. But a closer study of the artist’s connotations deciphers a deeper context which involves his neighbourhood of origin (Tottenham) and his remarks on social issues, religion, politics and artisanal bread. |
