Title |
KENT-D4D682: Early Medieval Anglo-Saxon Vessel Sherd |
||
Description |
English: Pottery sherd, probably from a vessel of Anglo-Saxon date. The sherd has a red-brown buff surface, while the body is grey with white crushed shell inclusions. The sherd is from the body of the vessel with worn breaks on three edges, while the break on the fourth edge is more recent. There is no decoration on the sherd, and it is relatively flat, with only a slight curve from its position as a lower body fragment (see drawing, sherd no 4). The sherd measures 32mm by 26mm at the widest points.
Found with nine other sherds, four of which are believed to be from the same vessel; see records KENT-D4A887, KENT-D4C866, KENT-D4D178 and KENT-D4DBE5. The relation of these sherds to each other can be seen on the attached drawing. |
