KENT-D4C866: Early Medieval Anglo-Saxon Vessel Sherd
Description
English: Pottery sherd, probably from a vessel of Anglo-Saxon date. The sherd has a red-brown buff surface, while the body is grey with white crushed shell inclusions. The fragment is almost triangular in shape, with worn breaks on all edges. The sherd is not decorated, and it is slightly curved body fragment of the vessel originally positioned just below the rim (see drawing, sherd number 2). The sherd measures 64mm by 60mm at the widest points. Found with nine other sherds, four of which are believed to be from the same vessel; see records KENT-D4A887, KENT-D4D178, KENT-D4D682 and KENT-D4DBE5. The relation of these sherds to each other can be seen on the attached drawing.
