Title
KENT-948213. Early medieval copper alloy tweezers.
Description
English: Anglo-Saxon copper alloy tweezers, folded from a thick copper alloy sheet. There is a well formed loop at the apex with a diameter of 3.96mm. The triangular arms taper out from the loop where they measure 3.29mm across and expand more rapidly aproximately half way down the length to the bottom where the width is 12.28mm. At the bottom, bith sides sharply in-curved to form the jaws. The tweezers are worn, with the incised decoration of two transverse lines with a cross below barely visible on the jaw end of the upper surface. The tweezers are bent at a third of the way down from the suspension loop. In their bent condition, the tweezers are 32.24mm long, however is stretched out the full length would be aproximately 44mm. The sheet copper alloy is 0.8mm thick. The patina is a patchy light to dark green. The tweezers are probably of 5th to 6th century date, however some examples survive into the 7th century.
