Description Unique Maki i Taua Pepe, in 1897. v.d. Steinen saw this as a woman dieing whilst giving birth to her child. When Thor Heyerdahl visitet the site in 1937, he saw same, but declared that the monument obviously had been damaged and capsized during the island's Christianisation period: It could as well represent a person or goddess swimming, and the "child" might stand for the the Marquesan people she carried with her. In 1937, the left arm was broken away and still missing. When Heyerdahl returned in 1956, this part meanwhile had been found nearby, and attached, and the monument had been positioned its original way. See rear view, 1897, and File:HivaOa Takii.jpg (2009).
