Summary

[edit]
Description
Deutsch: MOK, Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst, Köln. A09,11; Ausstellung Horizonte. Bishamon in seiner ursprünglichen Gestalt
English: MOK, Cologne. Bishamon in his original form
Bishamonten, one of the Four Heavenly Kings (Shitenno) was interpreted as the husband of Kichijoten, goddess of fortune. The scrolls illustrate the love story of the former existences (honji) od the two deities, the 'Golden Prince' and the 'Heavenly Jewel Princess'. The scene illustrates the miraculous birth of the princess. A silvery beam touches the child, emanating from a dragon who, like the triad with Amida-Buddha, descends from the clouds.
