Description

Jupiter and its volcanic moon Io imaged by Voyager 1 approximately 15 days after closest approach. Io is backlit by light reflected off Jupiter's cloudtops, allowing a glimpse of the terrain on the moon's nightside.

This is a single narrow angle camera photo, produced using orange and UV filter images. It was taken at 0055 UT on March 21, 1979.
