Summary
[edit]DescriptionJupiter South Pole - Voyager 1 (46778857971).png |
Jupiter's South Pole imaged by Voyager 1 about three days after closest approach. High altitude clouds cast long shadows across Jupiter's polar regions. Although visible in imaging data from several missions, these clouds were not noticed until Juno provided the first direct views of Jupiter's polar regions in 2016. These clouds are estimated to be between 40 and 80 km higher than the surrounding cloud deck. This image consists of a two-frame narrow angle camera mosaic colorized with a wide-angle orange, green, violet color composite. It was taken at 1233UT on March 8, 1979. |
