English: Junkers Ju 52 (BJ + Yx) - 24 - yellow rudder. Ju 52s were part of the initial equipment of KG 455 in Giebelstadt as "makeshift bombers" from the fall of 1935. During the Second World War, the Ju 52, nicknamed "Aunt Ju", could be found at almost all airfields in Europe and North Africa that were approached and used by the German Air Force. Its main task was the transport of personnel and material, and, especially at the beginning of the war, the transport and dropping of paratroopers during (mostly loss-making) airborne operations, including on the Mediterranean island of Crete from May 20 to June 1, 1941. In addition, the Junkers Ju 52 was used as a liaison aircraft, as well as in large numbers in the blind flight, radio operator and pilot schools. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
