Description |
English: White paper with typed black text Mr. Kittredge [sic] Wing, Superintendent Gettysburg National Military Park Gettysburg, Pa. Dear Mr. Wing: I am sorry to be so late in writing to thank you for the wonderful cooperation, outstanding service and courtesy you extended to us in connection with the dedication of the monument to the Soldiers and Sailors of the Confederacy on August 25, 1965. Without your helpful advice, when Mrs. Smith and I visited you at your headquarters in Gettysburg, and again met with you and members from the Department of Interior in Philadelphia, we could never have accomplished this project. You were most helpful and told us what pitfalls to avoid and what should be done to consummate this project which has been close to the hearts of each member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. No one could have been more helpful, more cooperative, more courteous, painstaking, patient and understanding than you were throughout all of our interviews. I have heard numerous compliments about your wonderful work and I assure you that it was a great privilege and a high honor to work with you. The 25th was an extremely busy day for me and I think my duties could have been simplified had some of the ladies been more careful in compiling the list of distinguished guests. I would like to write to the Official from the National Park Service who accepted the monument. Will you be good enough to give me his name and address in the enclosed self-addressed stamped envelope. If you are ever in this vicinity or in New York City, I hope you will let me know. I would be very pleased to have luncheon or dinner with you whenever you are in this vicinity – and that goes for Mrs. Wing if she is with you.
