Mr. Barron reported on the Duke of Buccleuch Grape as a veryvaluable summer Grape, but which would not keep long after beingripe, as it is thin-skinned. It is extremely pleasant to eat, theflesh tender and juicy, with a rich sparkling acidity somewhat ofthe Hamburgh character. A First-class Certificate was accord-ingly awarded. Messrs. Carter offered Prizes for Runners andFrench Beans, including Carters Champion. Mr. Ross was first,Mr. Frisby second. Mr. J. Smith, gardener to the Earl of Gains-borough, made a communication as to the effect of lifting andrenewing the soil in preventing shanking in Grapes, a circumstancewhich cannot be too carefully kept in mind in many other cases ofdisease.
