ey tire easily, lack am-bition, have a muddy-colored, anemic ap-pearance, and in general, are below par.They are compelled to resort to largedoses of purgatives which result in a fewliquid stools, and then constipation un-til the next taking of purgatives. Atthese times a few hard masses may passwith the liquid stool. The x-ray (Fig. 1)generally shows a stasis in the ileo-cecalregion, and the urine contains a largeamount of indican. I have observed itat two years of age, and at fifty-six. Itoccurs about equally in the male andfemale. On palpation, frequently, a dis-tinct mass, of doughy consistency andtender to the touch, will be felt; and inmany cases enlarged glands may easilybe distinguished. It is this class of cases that have theirappendices removed on a diagnosis ofchronic or gastric appendicitis, feel bet-ter for a time, sometimes not over twoweeks, and then pass through the samecycle again.
