Journal of the Medical Society of New Jersey. 411 rence of symptoms is that while the ap-pendix may be diagnosed as thickened,catarrhal or chronic—very often to easethe operators conscience—or even if itis thickened and chronically inflamed,yet, neglect to remove the real cause ofthe trouble, must result in failure. If a sufficiently large incision be made,permitting the delivery of the cecum andterminal ileum, Jacksons membrane willbe found very distinctly in evidence.Mesenteric glands will be found enlarged,and often fecal masses from one-half tofive centimeters in diameter may be read-ily palpated in the pouches, formed byJacksons membrane, constricting trans-versely and shortening longitudinallythe cecum and ascending colon. Fre-quently, too, in these cases, a Lane kinkof the terminal ileum is found. The treatment consists of dividing thismembrane where it is attached to one ofthe longitudinal
