High-power microphotograph. Smallround cell sarcoma, cells of nearly uniform type, size, andmorphology, resembling Ewings endothelial myeloma. the right humerus, which is ten-der to pressure. No movablemass can be felt and no involve-ment of the soft parts or of axil-lary and cervical glands can bemade out. There is definite limi-tation of the shoulder joint ap-parently due to the pain andmost marked on abduction.X-ray Examination: (See Fig. Page Ttoch* 16). Shows expansion of theupper end of the humerus in theregion of the greater tuberosityand apparently extending throughthe epiphyseal line into the headof the bone. The expansion israther symmetrical, but the in-volved area is cloudy and ap-pears lobulated, not smooth, asseen in bone cysts, nor mottled. PRIMARY TUMORS OF BONE—SOSMAN AND CANTER as seen in older bone cysts or ingiant cell tumors. The ma-jority favored a low grade in-flammatory process. The mostplausible was the suggestion thatit was due to syphilis, as the pa-tient presented a very suggestivehistory. Several, among them Dr.Bloodgood, insisted that the con-dition was malignant, but allagreed that a course of salvarsan should be tried as an aid to diag-nosis, as well as for therapeuticpurposes. Accordingly, the pa-tient received six doses of sal-varsan between September 11and October 2, without the slight-est benefit.
