Record of Two Fish, Not Before Men-tioned, from Laguna During the summer of 1914 no special effort was made to collectfish, but the two following species were taken: Porichthys notatus Girard A specimen of this interesting but rather common Californian fishwas taken in a tide pool and kept for some time alive in the aquari-um. This is sometimes called Midshipman, because of thebright metallic spots over the head and body, like the buttons on amidshipmans uniform of years ago. These spots are providedwith a lens, connective tissue capsule and a reflector, and are sup-posed to be luminous.
