English: Joule's Brewery, Stone, Staffordshire, seen from across the Trent and Mersey Canal in 1970. There is a link between the name of this brewery and the energy unit, the Joule. This unit is so named in recognition of pioneering work done in the 19th century on the relationship between heat and mechanical energy, by a member of the brewery family. |
