There is the bench on the left side with a fewgouges, chisels, planes, and small saws here and there,wThile on the walls round about are to be seen smallmetal patterns for working details. A few violins are hung on the opposite wall, which tothe eye of the intending purchaser are of the ordinarytype or style of the maker he has been advised to seek.A small nest of drawers, with a bottle of ink, quill andpieces of paper, are near the window, a chair of theperiod for the occasional visitors to lounge in, massivelycarved in the manner of the day, with large curves,vulgar enough to suggest inappropriateness of lodgementnear such refined wrork as the proprietor had placed inview. His own seat, used for hours at a time, is near,and of no pretensions. It is strong enough, with itsleather padded top studded round the sides with brass-
