Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The "oval forum" is one of the most famous and evocative spaces in Gerasa (Jerash), due to its unusual shape, its large size (over 90 meters long) and its location with respect to the rest of the city. It occupies a natural dip in the landscape , and its unusual elliptical plan enables it to join the Cardo Maximus, the Sanctuary of Zeus and the road coming in from the South Gate. Although commonly referred to as a forum, the exact function of the area is still very uncertain, and there is no evidence poiting to its original use.
