På dette bildet vises en av verdenshistoriens letteste mynter, en brakteat. Mynten veier bare 0,2 gram og måler 15 millimeter i diameter. Siden sølvet var så tynt, kunne det bare preges på den ene siden. Figuren på denne mynten ligner en nisse, men luen er en mitra, en bispehatt ansiktet tilhører erkebiskop Jon Raude (1268-1282).

Brakteaten var en av de vanligste i Norge på 1100- og 1200-tallet og kunne veie fra 0,06 til 0,3 gram. I årene 1222-1281 og 1483-1537 hadde erkebiskopene i Nidaros rett til å fremstille mynt, men kongen bestemte motivet. Av denne grunn er det ikke mulig å skille mellom kongenes og erkebiskopenes mynter, med unntak av denne ene mynten med bilde av Jon Raude. Magnus Lagabøtes (1263-1280) mynter fra samme periode er prydet av et hode med krone på.

In this picture, a bracteate, one of the lightest coins in world history, is shown. The coin weighs only 0,2 grams and measures 15 millimeter across. Due to the thinness, it could only be engraved on one side. The figure looks like a Santa Claus, but the hat is, in fact, a Mitre, a hat worn by bishops. The face belongs to the Norwegian archbishop Jon Raude (1268-1282).

The bracteate was one of the most common coins in Norway during the 1100s and the 1200s and could weigh from 0,06 to 0,3 grams. During the years 1222-1281 and 1483-1537, the archbishop in Nidaros had the right to issue coins, but the king decided its appearance. Because of this, it is not possible to distinguish between coins issued by the king and those issued by the archbishop. The coin in the picture serves as an interesting exception, since the king, Magnus Lagabøte (1263-1280) issued coins during the same period decorated with a head and a crown.
