Description
English: Dinghy cruiser of Schule am Meer south of Juist, East Frisia, Prussia in Wadden Sea. Aboard nine pupils can be recognized plus one teacher, the boarding schools principal Martin Luserke (1880–1968) holding the tiller. At the bow, pupil Heinz-Günther Knolle (1912-1999) is leaning on the port side, barefoot, partly on the railing, partly over it, wearing a light sweater. On the picture's horizon the elevated route of the island's train tracks can be recognized, whose ferry dock was almost exactly south of S.a.M. (fully visible on the right). From there, the railway line gradually led in a north-easterly direction (left rear), describing an arc until the island's small train station was reached. Coming from the ferry some pupils often only rode part of the way on the island railway, illegaly jumping off at a point where they came closest to the boarding school's premises. The island's station was a detour for them to get to the S.a.M. However, some had to make the detour because of their luggage to be driven from the station forecourt to the Loog in a horse-drawn carriage. The dinghy cruiser is located approximately south of today's Hammersee (lake) which, however, still did not exist at the time of this picture. The dinghy cruiser also may be located south of the location Augustendüne where the establishment of the S.a.M still was planned in 1924. The Loog, where the boarding school finally came into being, was just north of the ferry terminal.

À l'horizon de l'image, on reconnaît le tracé surélevé des voies ferrées de l'île, dont le quai du traversier était presque exactement au sud de S.a.M. (entièrement visible à droite). De là, la ligne de chemin de fer s'est progressivement dirigée vers le nord-est (allusion aux liens), décrivant un arc jusqu'à ce que la petite gare de l'île soit atteinte. Venant du ferry, certains élèves n'ont souvent parcouru qu'une partie du chemin sur le chemin de fer de l'île, sauter illégalement à un point où ils se sont approchés le plus près des locaux de l'internat. La gare de l'île leur servait de détour pour se rendre au S.a.M. Cependant, certains ont dû faire le détour à cause de leurs bagages pour être conduits du parvis de la gare au Loog en calèche. Le croiseur dériveur est situé approximativement au sud de l'actuel Hammersee (lac) qui, cependant, n'existait toujours pas au moment de cette photo. Le croiseur dériveur peut également être situé au sud de l'emplacement Augustendüne où l'implantation de la S.a.M était encore prévue en 1924. Le Loog, où le pensionnat a finalement vu le jour, se trouvait juste au nord du terminal des ferries.

An Bord lassen sich neun Schüler ausmachen und ein Lehrer, der Direktor des Internats, Martin Luserke (1880–1968), die Pinne haltend. Am Bug lehnt der Schüler Heinz-Günther Knolle (1912-1999) an Backbord, barfuß, teils an der Reling, teils darüber, bekleidet mit einem hellen Pullover. Am Bildhorizont erkennt man die Pfahljochstrecke der Inselbahn, deren Fähranleger sich ziemlich exakt südlich der S.a.M. befand (auf dem Foto rechts vollständig zu erkennen) und von dort allmählich einen Bogen in nordöstliche Richtung beschreibend (auf dem Foto links hinten), dem kleinen Inselbahnhof zustrebte. Manche Schüler fuhren von der Fähre kommend oft nur eine Teilstrecke mit der Inselbahn mit, sprangen an einer Stelle ab, an der sie dem Internatsgelände am nächsten kamen. Der Inselbahnhof war für sie ein Umweg, um zur S.a.M. zu gelangen, manche mussten den Umweg jedoch wegen ihres Gepäcks in Kauf nehmen und sich vom Bahnhofsvorplatz mit einem Pferdefuhrwerk ins Loog kutschieren lassen. Der Jollenkreuzer befindet sich etwa südlich des heutigen Hammersees, der zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahme jedoch noch gar nicht existierte, bzw. südlich der Stelle (Augustendüne), an der die Errichtung der S.a.M noch 1924 geplant war. Das Loog, wo das Landerziehungsheim schließlich entstand, lag genau nördlich des Fähranlegers.
