English: PH Coll 280.6 David Roby Judkins (1836-1909) worked as a photographer in San Francisco, opening various studios. In 1868 he returned east, married Ellen Gill, and opened a studio in Illinois. He was back in California by the 1870s. In 1879 he had opened a studio in Port Townsend, and filed for a divorce. In 1880 he was established in Seattle and opened Judkins' Floating Sunbeam Gallery (also known as the Cottage Gallery), , a studio on a barge. He married Ida A. Bangs, and had three children, John R. Judkins (1882-1903), Edith Judkins (1883-1900) & Etta Hazle Judkins (1891-1974). The family moved between Washington State, British Columbia, and Alaska, opening various galleries and studios. By 1903, a widower with one surviving child (Hazle), he moved back to California and lived and worked there until his death in 1909.
