John Monash arriving home, 1919

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Original caption: Royalty could crave no warmer welcome from devoted subjects than that which was accorded Lieut-General Sir John Monash, G.C.M.G., K.C.B., V.D., on Friday morning, when he landed at St. Kilda after his years of service abroad. It was Boxing Day, the one great universal holiday of the people, but there were many cheering thousands to welcome the great leader who, on the field, had merely to tell his men where to go and they went. Beside the people there were representatives of the Government and every public body, and His Excellency himself paid his respects to Australia's "Hannibal."
