Grave of John H. Clark at Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio, in the United States. Clark was a native of Columbus, Ohio, who served in Cuba in the Spanish-American War. He returned to Columbus after the war. On September 29, 1899, James Romanis assembled 17 veterans (including Clark) in the tailor's shop of Francis Dubiel, and the group form the American Veterans of Foreign Service -- the precursor to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Clark was elected one of three trustees of the new organization. |
