English: U.S. Sen. John Cornyn in Dallas on Saturday, November 10th to participate in the Diwali Mela 2007, hosted by the DFW Indian Cultural Society. The event featured speakers from the three major religions, native Indian dancers, Indian food and recreations of the various religious entities from each of the religions celebrating Diwali. Earlier this year, Sen. Cornyn co-sponsored legislation in the Senate honoring Diwali. This resolution asked the Senate to recognize the religious and historical significance of the festival of Diwali, as well as requested the President to issue a proclamation recognizing Diwali. |
