Bruning, writer and documentarian, at Provider Chapel on Fort Carson, Colo., July 11, 2014. Bruning also talked about military history during an officer professional development class focusing on adaptive leadership development with Leaders and Soldiers at Provider Chapel. Bruning is a prolific military and aviation historian who is the author of six books, including The Devil’s Sandbox: With the 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry at War in Iraq (Zenith). His other books include Outlaw Platoon (with Sean Parnell, William Morrow 2012), House to House: A Soldier’s Memoir (with David Bellavia, Free Press 2007), How to Break a Terrorist: The U.S. Interrogators Who Used Brains, Not Brutality, to Take Down the Deadliest Man in Iraq (with Matthew Alexander, Free Press 2008), and Shadow of the Sword: A Marine’s Journey of War, Heroism and Redemption (with Jeremiah Workman, Ballantine/Presidio 2009). He is at work on several other projects currently for major publishers. Bruning has also consulted for museums in both the U.S. and Europe, and for computer companies such as Sierra Online and Microsoft. He has helped produce more than a dozen historical documentaries.
