In seinem Testament hat der Maler 1839 verfügt: "Meinem Hausmädchen, Georgine Claus, die nun acht Jahre in meinen Diensten ist, vermache ich, wenn Sie bis zu meinem Tode mir treu dient, das vollständige Bett, worauf sie schläft, und 300 T, buchstäblich dreihundert Taler." Description Hüftbild nach links, in Tracht, mit einem geschlossenen Buch, auf dessen Rücken "J. G. Claus" steht. "Unser Bild einer braunschweigischen Großbauerntochter repräsentiert mit dem 'spanischen Mühlsteinkragen' noch eine alte, durch Empirekleidung o. ä. nicht mehr veränderte Tracht und manifestiert so eine im Traditionellen verharrende Eigenständigkeit, die sich nicht nach moderner städtischer Kleidung richtet, sondern die überkommenen Formen eher noch übersteigert - und dann sehr schnell absterben kann".
