Public domain

This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or fewer.

You must also include a United States public domain tag to indicate why this work is in the public domain in the United States. Note that a few countries have copyright terms longer than 70 years: Mexico has 100 years, Jamaica has 95 years, Colombia has 80 years, and Guatemala and Samoa have 75 years. This image may not be in the public domain in these countries, which moreover do not implement the rule of the shorter term. Honduras has a general copyright term of 75 years, but it does implement the rule of the shorter term. Copyright may extend on works created by French who died for France in World War II (more information), Russians who served in the Eastern Front of World War II (known as the Great Patriotic War in Russia) and posthumously rehabilitated victims of Soviet repressions (more information).

A newspaper advertisement from 1844 announcing a musical event organised by Johann Gottfried Piefke, a Prussian conductor and composer of military music. The newspaper is unknown, but in all likeliness it is a local newspaper from Frankfurt (Oder) where Piefke lived and where the event was scheduled to take place.

And this is what the text says (a loose translation):

Advertisement for a Concert

The first one in the series of subscription-based concerts arranged by me will take place, if the weather permits, on Friday, May 31st, in the garden of Grattenauer's spa, commencing at 4:30 p.m. In making this advertisement, I would like to announce that virtuoso violinist v. Küstner will perform parts of Prume's concerto "Die Melancolie" and a concerto by Beriot in the first part of the event whereas in the second part the "Sonate pathetique" by Beethoven will be performed. The admission tickets will be sent to subscribers within the next few days. Those gentlemen who have had no opportunity to subscribe but who nevertheless would like to participate in the programme are kindly asked to give me notice. Frankfurt an der Oder, May 24, 1844. Piefke
