On the medal-lion is the head of a man somewhat resembling the Duke of Wellington. Signed at the lower right, A. Vollon. No. 31 JOHANN BARTHOLD JONGKIND DUTCH (1819-1891) DUTCH CANAL BY MOONLIGHT Height, 16 inches; Length, 25 x/z inches. PANEL Against the luminosity of the moonlit sky a windmill rises darkly on theright bank of the canal. In the shadow beneath it a barge is being broughtto its mooring by two men, one of whom hauls on a rope while the otherpushes with a pole. In the center of the stream, a boat with its sail downis being poled along by two men. It is moving in the direction of a tall,arched bridge, supported on three piers, behind which are dimly visibleanother windmill and some trees. The moon is at full, surrounded by ascattered aureole of warm, yellowish clouds. Signed and dated at the lower right, Jongkind, 69.

THE FLOCK AT HOMECHARLES EMILE JACQUE CATALOGUE No. 32 No. 32CHARLES EMILE JACQUE FRENCH (1813-1894) THE FLOCK AT HOME Height, 18)i. inches; Length, 26 inches. The wall of the stable interior is a silvery bluish-drab, illuminated from theupper left by a streak of light, which falls across a portion of the plaster onwhich a lantern hangs. In the center of the floor stand two ewes and twowell-grown lambs, all facing to the front, where a dark brown hen is scratch-ing in the straw. To the left of this group are two other hens, beside asheep that is lying down. Over on the right, a lamb is reaching up to arack, stuffed with yellow fodder. Meanwhile, in the center of the middledistance, through an opening into an inner stable, the back of the shepherd,clad in a blue blouse, shows against the golden-brown obscurity. Signed at the lower right, Ch. Jacque.
